Body of missing jet-skier found Andy Funnell competed in windsurfing events around the world The body of a windsurfing champion who went missing at sea has been washed up on the shore near Bexhill, Sussex Police have said. Officers say Andy Funnell's body was found on the shore at Bulverhythe on the night of 23 June and was formally identified on Monday.
A police spokesman said that an inquest would be held into the death.
Mr Funnell, 21, went missing on 15 June while riding a jet-ski off the coast of Seaford, where he lived.
His disappearance led to an intensive search by the coastguards, lifeboats and police after he was reported missing, presumed dead.
A vigil was held on Seaford's beach on 17 June to remember the British Windsurfing Champion, whose family and friends said they had accepted he was gone.
Windsurfers attending the vigil said Mr Funnell was a remarkable talent who had performed in competitions across the globe and had the world at his feet.
Missing man is leading windsurfer Andy Funnell has competed in windsurfing events around the world A 21-year-old jet-skier presumed dead after going missing off the East Sussex coast is a champion windsurfer, it has been revealed. Andy Funnell, from Seaford, is thought to have fallen from his jet-ski off the town's beach about 1945 BST on Tuesday.
The search was abandoned after his jet-ski was found on a beach on Wednesday.
Mr Funnell had competed in windsurfing championships all over the world and friends said it was surprising he had not been able to keep afloat.
He was probably one of the best examples of windsurfing talent that we had
Fellow windsurfer David White
The alarm was raised when a friend he was with called emergency services to say Mr Funnell had not resurfaced after falling from the machine.
Lifeboat and coastguard teams searched for him and a helicopter was used to scour the area, but the rescue was called off when the jet-ski was found on Wednesday morning.
Police underwater search teams are expected to visit the area were Mr Funnell fell at about 0800 BST on Thursday.
David White, 42, who is a member of the same windsurfing team as Mr Funnell, described him as one of the UK's best talents in the sport.
There are plans to hold a vigil on Seaford beach
Mr White said: "He had been doing so well, not only nationally but also internationally.
"He was probably one of the best examples of windsurfing talent that we had."
He said Mr Funnell's ability made it seem strange that he had apparently just fallen from the jet-ski and not stayed above the waves.
"It is so bizarre, this was a bloke that was used to windsurfing in 30ft waves," Mr White said.
He said Mr Funnell had been windsurfing since the age of nine, having been introduced to the sport by his father.
He also said his friend had been in Spain last week competing in a competition for their team Whiteboarders, and had won an indoor windsurfing contest held at a boat show in London earlier this year.
Friends from the windsurfing community are due to come to Seaford on Thursday to hold a vigil on the beach. |

Being Twenty-somthing - they call it the "Quarter-life Crisis.
It is when you stop going along with the crowd and start realising that there are many things about yourself that you didn't know and may not like.
You start feeling insecure and wonder where you will be in a year or two, but then get scared because you barely know where you are now.
You start realising that people are selfish and that, maybe, those friends that you thought you were so close to aren't exactly the greatest people you have ever met, and the people you have lost touch with are some of the most important ones.
What you don't recognise is that they are realising that too, and aren't really cold, catty, mean or insincere, but that they are as confused as you. You look at your job... and it is not even close to what you thought you would be doing, or maybe you are looking for a job and realising that you are going to have to start at the bottom and that scares you.
Your opinions have gotten stronger. You see what others are doing and find yourself judging more than usual because suddenly you realise that you have certain boundaries in your life and are constantly adding things to your list of what is acceptable and what isn't. One minute, you are insecure and then the next, secure.
You laugh and cry with the greatest force of your life. You feel alone and scared and confused. Suddenly, change is the enemy and you try and cling on to the past with dear life, but soon realise that the past is drifting further and further away, and there is nothing to do but stay where you are or move forward.
You get your heart broken and wonder how someone you loved could do such damage to you. Or you lie in bed and wonder why you can't meet anyone decent enough that you want to get to know better. Or maybe you love someone but love someone else too and cannot figure out why you are doing this because you know that you aren't a bad person. One night stands and random hook ups start to look cheap. Getting wasted and acting like an idiot don't seem as fun.
You go through the same emotions and questions over and over, and talk with your friends about the same topics because you cannot seem to make a decision. You worry about loans, money, the future and making a life for yourself... and while winning the race would be great, right now you'd just like to be a contender!
What you may not realise is that everyone reading this relates to it. We are in our best of times and our worst of times, trying as hard as we can to figure this whole thing out.
Pass this to your twenty-something friends...maybe it will help someone feel like they aren't alone in their state of confusion........ |

Dear all As some of you already know, it'll be my birthday on Monday. I will be going out for dinner in Leicester Square somewhere and then hit a pub after that (might even make it to Haagen Dazs cafe in between!) Date: Monday 27 October Time: 7pm Meet: outside Burger King, Leicester Square I will be open to suggestions on where to have dinner, and the ultimate decision will be made on Monday evening when everyone has gathered. Right now, I have one idea, bearing in mind many of you are poor students: Wong Kei's Chinese restaurant (cheap and cheerful). This place, if you've never heard of it, is notorious for its rude service, but it's actually hammed-up as a tourist attraction! Cost will be about £5 including a soft drink, £6 if you want a beer instead. I will also be having a belated birthday celebration on Sunday 2nd November. Details: Date: Sunday 2 November Time: 1pm Meet: pagoda, Chinatown, Leicester Square Please feel free to bring some friends, your partner, or even parents. Many of you won't know each other, so this is a great opportunity to meet new people... you never know, you might get lucky! If any of you have to travel far to come in (or to get back home), you are welcome to stay over, but let me know first! If you need more info, or you get lost trying to find your way (it's easy to get distracted by the many pubs you encounter on the way...), then call or text me on 07719491948. Or email me early. I hope to see some of you very soon! Jason |

Men Are Hard To Please
The problems with GUYS:
If u TREAT him nicely, he says u are IN LOVE with him; If u Don't, he says u are PROUD. If u DRESS Nicely, he says u are trying to LURE him; If u Don't, he says u are from KAMPUNG. If u ARGUE with him, he says u are STUBBORN; If u keep QUIET, he says u have no BRAINS. If u are SMARTER than him, he'll lose FACE; If he's Smarter than u, he is GREAT. If u don't Love him, he tries to POSSESS u; If u Love him, he will try to LEAVE u.(very true huh?) If u don't make love with him., he says u don't Love him; If u do!! he says u are CHEAP. If u tell him your PROBLEM, he says u are TROUBLESOME; If u don't, he says that u don't TRUST him. If u SCOLD him, u are like a NANNY to him; If he SCOLDS u, it is because he CARES for u. If u BREAK your PROMISE, u Cannot be TRUSTED; If he BREAKS his, he is FORCED to do so. If u SMOKE, u are BAD girl; If he SMOKES, he is GENTLEMENT. If u do WELL in your exams, he says it's LUCK; If he does WELL, it's BRAINS. If u HURT him, u are CRUEL; If he HURTS u, u are too SENSITIVE!! & sooo hard to please!!!!! If u send this to guys, they will swear that it's not true....... but if u don't, they say u are selfish..... The moral of the story is.......SEND THIS TO GUYS OUT THERE ANYWAY... Send it to girls also, gives them some laughter ... |
